Members of the Organizing committee of Trans* Pride Belgrade held yesterday, on 20th of August 2015, a meeting with representatives of EU Delegation in Serbia. An occasion with this meeting was Trans* Pride Belgrade, to be held on 20th of September 2015, and the overall state and condition of trans* persons’ human rights in Serbia.
Inadequate legal framework of the Republic of Serbia supposed to protect members of trans* community was discussed during the meeting. The problem of absolute lack of legal recognition of trans* persons, having as a consequence impossibility of claiming constitutionally guaranteed rights, was stressed out.
Representatives of EU Delegation in Serbia stated their full support to Trans* Pride Belgrade and to the demands of the Organizing committee, especially to urgently needed legal gender recognition, adoption and implementation of a legislative for fast change of personal documentation for trans* persons.
Members of the Organizing committee reminded representatives of EU Delegation in Serbia on the Decision of the Constitutional court of the Republic of Serbia from 2012. By this Decision it was determined that not legally recognizing sex change of the person who filed the constitutional appeal, the state violated one’s right to dignity and free personality development. Within this Decision a recommendation was submitted to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to adopt legal framework providing trans* persons the possibility of changing sex designation and identification number in registry books. It was pointed out that the National Assembly, even after three years since the recommendation was submitted didn’t change the existing or adopted new law regulating this matter.
No one is free until we are all free.
